Severe Thunderstorm Watch Area: Northland Forecast: A rain-band with embedded thunderstorms and downpours is moving southwards over Northland on Sunday evening. Between 8pm and 11pm Sunday evening, localised downpours of 25-40mm/h are possible about southern parts Northland from the Hokianga Harbour and Bay of Islands southwards. These downpours could occur with or without thunderstorms. Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips. Driving conditions will also be hazardous with surface flooding and poor visibility in heavy rain. The rain and thunderstorm risk eases from the north during the evening.
