Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to around 90 km/h are likely for parts of the Southern and Central Tablelands and inland of areas of the South Coast, the Illawarra and the Southern Highlands. Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds during the early afternoon. Locations which may be affected include Nowra, Bowral, Braidwood, Katoomba, Nerriga and Captains Flat. 98 km/h gust recorded at 3:46 am at Mount Boyce. 94 km/h gust recorded at 8:49 pm at Nowra. Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS Issued at 10:54 am Wednesday, 12 June 2024. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences. * Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall. * Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and southwesterly winds are expected during Wednesday and Thursday. Areas likely to be affected include the Snowy Mountains forecast district and parts of the Northern Tablelands, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts.
