Special Weather Statement issued May 20 at 6:13PM EDT by NWS Miami FL At 613 PM EDT, National Weather Service meteorologists were tracking a strong thunderstorm near Loxahatchee NWR, or 7 miles southwest of Wellington, moving southeast at 20 to 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Wellington, Lake Worth, Palm Beach, Highland Beach, Ocean Ridge, Greenacres, Royal Palm Beach, Palm Springs, Lantana, Atlantis, Loxahatchee NWR, Hamptons At Boca Raton, Village Of Golf, Whisper Walk, Kings Point, Dunes Road, and Loxahatchee Groves. These winds can down small tree limbs and branches, and blow around unsecured small objects. Seek shelter in a safe building until the storm passes. Funnel clouds occasionally touch down and produce tornadoes or waterspouts. Move indoors and stay away from windows. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
