Storm drains and ditches may be clogged with debris, increasing the risk of flooding. This is especially true in the Chicago metropolitan area. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Parts of the Flood Watch area have picked up 3 to 6 inches of rain in the past 48 hours. As a result, many rivers and creeks in the watch area are already at bankfull and soils are saturated. Northeastern Kane County in northeastern Illinois... * Until 700 PM CDT. * At 355 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing rainfall rates of up to 2 to 3 inches per hour. Up to 3 inches of rain have fallen in portions of far northeast Kane County. 1 inch of rain was reported in about 15 minutes in Barlett. Flash flooding is already occurring according to reports from the Elgin area. HAZARD...Significant flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Rapid-onset, significant flooding of creeks, streams, drainage ditches, low-lying areas, and poor drainage areas. Widespread street and underpass flooding. Possible flooding of structures.
