Flood Watch issued June 21 at 11:37AM CDT until June 22 at 7:00AM CDT by NWS Sioux Falls SD * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of northwest Iowa, including the following areas, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Lyon, O'Brien, Osceola, Plymouth and Sioux, southwest Minnesota, including the following areas, Cottonwood, Jackson, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone and Rock, and South Dakota, including the following areas, Aurora, Beadle, Bon Homme, Brookings, Brule, Charles Mix, Clay, Davison, Douglas, Gregory, Hanson, Hutchinson, Jerauld, Kingsbury, Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Miner, Minnehaha, Moody, Sanborn, Turner, Union and Yankton. * WHEN...Through Saturday morning. * IMPACTS...Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Widespread heavy rain is expected Friday evening through Friday night. Storm total rainfall may reach 2 to 4 inches in many locations with potential for higher amounts. Little Sioux River near Montgomery affecting Dickinson County. West Fork Little Sioux River near Lake Park affecting Dickinson County. Little Sioux River At Linn Grove affecting O'Brien, Buena Vista, Clay and Cherokee Counties. Ocheyedan River near Spencer affecting Clay County. Little Sioux River at Spencer affecting Clay County. Little Sioux River near Milford affecting Dickinson County. Little Sioux River above Spencer / Highway 18 affecting Clay County. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Little Sioux River at Cherokee. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 24.0 feet, County Highway C38E is closed due to flooding, and the water reaches the northwest corner of 2nd Street and Beech Street in Cherokee. Water also reaches the front of the B&H feed store. County Road C44 between Highway 159 and County Road L56 is flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 10:00 PM CDT Friday the stage was 19.5 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 10:00 PM CDT Friday was 19.5 feet. - Forecast...The river will rise to 24.9 feet tomorrow evening. It will then fall Monday evening. It will then rise to 22.6 feet by early Wednesday morning. After that, it should fall again, but remain above flood stage. - Flood stage is 17.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas.
